  • “Hi, I’m Ruby Rose Ellis and I’m the founder of Studio 77, a website design and branding studio, created in London originally, but in 2022 I decided to sell everything I own, pack everything into a suitcase, and try out the digital nomad lifestyle with my husband, Will, who is also the developer at Studio 77.

Since we left over a year ago we’ve been to Mexico, Bali, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Greece, Italy, back home to England and now we’re back in Mexico on round two of our channels.

But, despite this, this isn’t a travel blog, this is about branding, websites and all things design.  Every week I’m going to share updates on what it’s like to own a business on the road and share snippets of what we’ve been up to each week, so feel free to follow along if you want to life behind the scenes as a creative biz owner on the go!”

Episode 1

  • Welcome to Episode 1 of a week in the life of a designer on the road.

This week we had lots of fun projects to work on, it’s a few weeks before we close for Christmas so we’re trying to get everything tied up before we’re off for a couple of weeks.

This week we launched a new brand and Squarespace website for a coaching company, Jasmine Miller Coaching, plus doing some email templates and email signatures to match.

I’m also working on a branding project at the moment for a new American company, The nonprofit Marketing Co., I’ve been working on n’s and m’s this week to get the logo right, it’s not quite there yet, but the client signed off a design yesterday which I’ll share with you next week.

We’ve also been making some updates and new icons for the lovely Mindful Champs Shopify website to help increase conversion ahead of Christmas.

We’ve also designed some new pages for one our nonprofit clients, Do It Now Now, I did the designs earlier this week and they have now been signed off so we can build them next week.

Episode 2

  • Welcome back to Episode 2 of a week in the life of a designer on the road.

This week, we started developing the new custom Squarespace pages that we designed last week for the nonprofit Do It Now Now, we’ve got a few more pages that we need to get done next week, but we’ve made good progress this week.

We also had sign-off for The NonProfit Marketing Co logo, so I finished up the logos, exported them in all the different colourways and layouts, finished up the brand guidelines doc and handed everything back over to Amber, the founder.

We spent a lot of time in our co-working space in Mexico City this week. I like it here because I get to pet a dog most days, this is Olivia; she is my dog of the week!

I also had some changes to do for a new sustainable dental care brand called Tooth Angel, this week I had to cut out the brushes, which was both tedious and also kind of meditative at the same time, and make some final packaging teaks before we send it off for print.

And finally, we also had some edits to Elivide, a nutritional supplement brand, we designed the labels and reworked the brand a few weeks back, there was a bit of back and forth with the printers, we had to change the logo to get it to sit better on the jars!

We ended up the week by going for ramen, followed by a cheeky pint!

Follow along for more behind-the-scenes stuff, and see you next week.

Episode 3

  • Welcome back to episode 3 of a week in the life of a designer on the road. This one’s coming in a lil late as closed for Christmas.

This week we finished developing all the pages for non-profit Do It Now Now in Squarespace, so we’re super happy with that, as is the client. All completed within budget and delivered on time, happy times.

We also started a new branding project this week, at the start of a project I just throw together a messy moodboard in illustrator which is what I’m doing here. Helps me get my juices flowing!

We also did the final prepping for about 12 packaging nets for Tooth Angel, going through and making sure everything was perfectly aligned and outlining all the fonts for the printers.

Alex bought in cinnamon rolls to the office which was very kind of her. Cheers!

I also was working on promoting my webinar on Jan 23rd about common logo design mistakes, I made some pins for Pinterest, and in the process, realised I had some off-brand pins from a few years back so deleted those.

I finished the week with a long run down Reforma and some Christmas salsa - Feliz Navidad!
