My Candle is a premium candle e-commerce shop which allows their customers to completely control and personalise the product they are ordering. The end product is a completely bespoke sensory experience, whether it be through scent, size, look, or all three.
Here at Studio 77, we were commissioned to create a full brand roll out for My Candle, including a logo-mark and brand assets that feel modern and approachable, whilst avoiding all overly ornate or traditional cues. The Flame symbol was an obvious nod to the product, creating a recognisable warmth and referencing the growing trend of ‘Hygge’. The modern graphic style and rounded corners keep the logo from feeling dated or twee. The flame itself is split into two parts, representing how the product is a collaboration between the craftspeople of My Candle and the purchaser through their personal customisations.
The colour palette features a curation of muted and calming tones. It was important to our client that we created a simple and cohesive look across the brand, with a contemporary air, free from unnecessary, surplus detail; setting the brand apart from its ‘competitors’ in the homeware sector. The palette was refined to create a calming visual space for the product inspired by their fragrance selection. Think sea spray, delicate florals, and fresh laundry.
To continue making each product distinctive and truly one-of-a-kind, each label is custom printed with the memory or location each scent is meant to evoke. The packaging for the individual candles pays homage to the labels of chemists and perfumers, emphasising the craftsmanship and bespoke nature of the candles and updates it using more modern type and typesetting. All this was carefully curated as a means of further consolidating a remarkably, authentic brand. It was about striking the perfect balance between drawing upon tradition and designing for longevity.
